Karlos Vemola vs. Jon Madsen set for UFC 116
by Jacob Camargo on April 30, 2010

Undefeated prospects Karlos Vemola and Jon Madsen have verbally agreed to face each other in a heavyweight bout that will take place on the unaired preliminary portion of the UFC 116 card in July. News of the match up was first reported by Fighter's Only.

Vemola, who signed with the UFC earlier this month, most recently scored a first-round knockout win over Peter Yendall at an Ultimate Challenge MMA event in February. He has fought the majority of his career for the U.K.-based Cage Fighters Championship, fighting six of his seven career bouts there.

Vemola has put together a perfect 7-0 MMA record since making his pro debut in February 2008, scoring first-round stoppage wins in all of his victories, including four by submission and three by (T)KO. The Czech native trains out of London Shootfighters with current UFC welterweight John Hathaway and former UFC heavyweight Mustapha al Turk.

Madsen is fresh off of a win over Vemola's teammate al Turk at UFC 112 earlier this month. The win moved him to 2-0 in the UFC, with a previous win coming in his Octagon debut against Justin Wren at TUF 10 Finale this past December.

Madsen started his UFC career as a cast member on The Ultimate Fighter season 10, where he went 1-1, defeating Abe Wagner in the opening round before losing to Brendan Schaub in the quarter-finals. He also sports a undefeated career record, as he has put together a 5-0 MMA record in his two-year professional career.

Also of note, Madsen currently hones his skills at Matt Hughes' The H.I.T. Squad in Granite City, Illinois, with notable fighters such as Brian Foster and Robbie Lawler.

Though not officially announced, UFC 116 is expected take place on July 3 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV, and the event's main card will air live on PPV. The event will likely be headlined by a UFC heavyweight title unification bout between UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and interim heavyweight champ Shane Carwin.
