World Victory Road today announced the first bout for its Sengoku 10th Battle event as lightweights Kazunori Yokota and Ryan Schultz will square off at the event.
Sengoku 10 will take place on on September 23 from the Saitama Community Arena in Saitama, Japan, and will air on HDNet in North America.
Schultz and Yokota were the first six previously announced participants for the event along with former Elite XC heavyweight champion Antonio Silva, UFC veteran Joe Doerksen and a pair of talented Olympic medalists, Hiroshi Izumi and Makoto Takimoto.
Former IFL lightweight champion, Schultz, has lost his first two bouts with the Sengoku promotion. He debuted with the promotion at Sengoku 4 last August, where he was knocked out by Mizuto Hirota and then just one month after that was defeated by Jorge Masdival at Sengoku 5. Prior to his stint with Sengoku, Schultz put together a successful run with the now-defunct IFL promotion going 7-2 with notable wins over Aaron Riley, Deividas Taurosevicius and Chris Horodecki. The WEC and SuperBrawl veteran holds other notable wins over Jason Dent, Mike Aina and Roger Huerta.
Yokota is coming off a win over Leonardo Santos at Sengoku Eighth Battle in May. Prior to the win, he was defeated by Satoru Kitaoka in the finale of the promotion's 2008 lightweight grand prix at Sengoku 6 last November. The longtime Deep veteran is now 3-1 in four fights with Sengoku with a notable win over current Sengoku lightweight champion Mizuto Hirota. He also holds a win outside the promotion over UFC veteran Michihiro Omigawa.
