Kazushi Sakuraba added to DREAM 11
by Jacob Camargo on October 03, 2009

DREAM announced earlier today that Japanese MMA legend Kazushi Sakuraba will be a late addition to Tuesday's DREAM 11 event. An opponent has yet to be revealed.

DREAM 11 takes place on Oct. 6 from the Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan and the event will air in North America on HDNet. The event will also feature the conclusion of DREAM's featherweight tournament as well as the semi-finals of the promotion's open-weight "Super Hulk" tournament.

The 40-year-old Sakuraba (24-12-1) will be fighting for the first time in 2009. He has lost his last two bouts against Melvin Manhoef and Kiyoshi Tamura respectively. Sakuraba hasn't tasted victory since defeating Andrews Nakahara at DREAM 2 in April of 2008.

Despite the recent slump, Sakuraba has had a truly legendary career. He has competed professionally for 13 years, fighting most of those years with PRIDE where he went 18-8-1 in 27 fights with the now defunct Japanese promotion.

The former pro wrestler has finished 21 of his 24 career wins including 17 by submission. He holds notable wins in his long career over such top level opponents as Ken Shamrock, Kevin Randleman, Quinton Jackson, Carlos Newton and Vitor Belfort while suffering losses to top fighters such as Wanderlei Silva, Ricardon Arona, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Mirko Cro Cop.

Sakuraba earned his infamous nickname, "The Gracie Hunter," by defeating members of the legendary family, including Renzo, Royce, Royler and Ryan Gracie.

Dream also announced that lightweight Daisuke Nakamura will now fight at DREAM 12 later this month after an opponent could not be secured for him. Nakamura was left without an opponent after Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante was forced out of their bout due to an injury in training.
