Keith Jardine cut from UFC following loss
by Giada Esposito on June 24, 2010

Following four straight losses, UFC veteran Keith Jardine has been cut from the organization.

Jardine lost to Matt Hamill in a majority decision at The Ultimate Fighter 11 finale, marking the culmination of a losing streak that began back at UFC 96. Even though the action was good enough to earn Fight of the Night honors, it proved to be one loss to many for "The Dean of Mean."

Jardine (15-8-1), who competed as a heavyweight on season two of The Ultimate Fighter, fought for most of his UFC career as a light-heavyweight, going 6-7 during his time in the Octagon.

The decision to cut Jardine was confirmed by UFC president Dana White on Thursday.

"It sucks," White told MMAFighting.com. "I have nothing but respect for him and I hope to see him back soon."

Over the course of his 13 fights in the UFC, "The Dean of Mean" was matched against some of the biggest names in the sport, and notched up several significant wins, including an impressive TKO of Forrest Griffin and victories over Chuck Liddell and Brandon Vera. He also fell short against men like Wanderlei Silva, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, and Thiago Silva.

Best of luck to him though. shawnb: honestly, horse shit. If you put up good fights against tough opponents, you should not be cut. Tonika Fatale: Yup ^ that sucks... Little_Kang: you can not drop 4 straight losses and 3 being from KO and expect to be kept good riddance. Opens the budget up for a deserving fighter The Hitman: Jardine is garbage. He will never be a contender again and he is rapidly dropping to Stephan Bonnar level. He absolutely deserves to be cut. You can't lose 4 in a row and expect to stay in just because you are facing tough opponents. Goodbye Jardine. I wonder how Natalia feels about this :D Castle: Strikeforce Jardine? shawnb: Sorry everyone but I really, really disagree. It's this sorta "win or out" thinking that is making fighters so afraid of a loss. This creates the mindset where fighters lay and pray, don't engage, and do just enough to eke out a decision. Everyone bitched and complained after the Rashad/Rampage fight about how fighters don't fight enough. Well THIS IS WHAT CREATES THAT. Gimme a break. How do you cut a guy who just got Fight of the Night honors? I'd rather see someone truly give'er out there and lose fair and square, than someone get a half assed win. Sure he won, but it was just barely, and neither guy looks the worse for wear because of it. But no, let's just keep cutting guys like Jardine who go balls to the wall and put on exciting fights. Don't get me wrong, if you suck and cant ever win, AND your fights are boring as shit, AND your competion is mediocre at best, then yes, see ya. I don't think this was the case. Jardine put on good fights with Chuck, Page, Forrest, and wins about 50/50. Not a great record, but brings in when least expected. He's got a good chin, and big heart. How do they keep Bonar for the same traits but let go of Keith? Sorry but I think it's crap, when "any win" is valued more than a "great loss" we've got some issues. GO HARD: jardines time was up. he got kept around for being a tough fighter and putting on great fights but his time is up... for now. and though i argree with jardine being cut... it is weird that your MAIN EVENT fighter is cut after a loss(that i think he won). UFC can just make some decisions that i question. im not saying just becuz a fighter puts on a great fight that he should be saved by the ufc... thats dumb. u have to set a standard with skill... but im just saying sometimes they are quick to pull the trigger(not in this case) and sometimes they look rather hypocritical. xxxFishxxx: Jardine's time was up, but I do think they need consistent guidelines in the UFC for cutting people. I say three losses in a row, and you're out. Same for everyone. If the UFC really is the NFL of MMA, they need clear, consistent rules that are followed every time.
