The UFC today officially confirmed the previously reported light-heavyweight tilt between Keith Jardine and Thiago Silva. The fight will be a co-featured bout at UFC 102.
Thiago Silva's original opponent was Forrest Griffin, however, the UFC opted to pit Griffin against UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva in his return trip to the light heavyweight division instead.
Just yesterday, the UFC announced the main event for UFC 102, which will be a heavyweight battle of MMA legends between Randy Couture and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. The event will go down on August 29 at the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon.
Thiago Silva is looking to rebound from his first career loss at UFC 94 at the hands of current UFC light-heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida back in January. Prior to the loss, Silva put together four solid wins inside the UFC over the likes of James Irvin, Tomasz Drwal, Houston Alexander and Antonio Mendes. Only one of Silva's 13 career wins have gone to decision and he has 10 wins by TKO with 2 coming by way of submission.
Keith Jardine also suffered a loss in his last fight, dropping a close unanimous decision to former UFC light-heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson at UFC 96 in March. Jardine sports a 6-4 record in 10 fights with the UFC and holds notable wins over past UFC light-heavyweight champions Chuck Liddell and Forrest Griffin as well as Kerry Schall, Mike Whitehead, Wilson Gouveia and Brandon Vera.
