A middleweight bout between TUF 3 winner Kendall Grove and Mark Munoz is being considered for the UFC 112 event in April. News of the bout was first reported MMAjunkie.com.
Grove (11-6) is coming off of a first-round submission win over Jake Rosholt at UFC 106 on Nov. 21. The win moved him to 3-1 in his last four bouts, with his lone loss over the stretch coming in his previous bout against Ricardo Almeida at UFC 101 in August.
Grove sports a 6-3 record in nine fights with the UFC, scoring other notable Octagon wins over Alan Belcher, Jason Day and the late Evan Tanner; while suffering his other UFC losses to Jorge Rivera and Patrick Cote.
Besides the UFC, Grove has competed for other notable promotions throughout his six-year career such as SuperBrawl, Total Combat, Rumble on the Rock and King of the Cage. Grove has scored stoppages in nine of his 11 career wins including seven coming by submission.
In order to be able to accept the bout against Grove, Munoz must be cleared by an orthopedic doctor for potential injuries to his right hand, wrist and elbow suffered during his most recent bout.
Munoz has won back-to-back fights inside the Octagon against Nick Catone and most recently Ryan Jensen at UFC 108: "Evans vs. Silva" on Jan. 2. Prior to the wins, he was handed his first career loss in his Octagon debut against Matt Hamill at UFC 96 last March.
Prior to joining the UFC, Munoz went 2-0 in the organization's sister promotion, the WEC, scoring stoppage wins over Chuck Grigsby and Ricardo Barros. The former NCAA Division I national wrestling champion has put together a nearly perfect 7-1 MMA record since turning pro in July 2007, with four of his seven career wins coming by stoppage.
Though not officially announced, UFC 112 is tentatively set to take place on April 10 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. UFC President Dana White recently mentioned that a stadium will be built for the event.
UFC 112 is expected to be headlined by a UFC middleweight title bout between champion Anderson Silva and challenger Vitor Belfort. In addtion, UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn will defend his belt against Frankie Edgar and nine-time UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes will welcome Renzo Gracie to the Octagon.
