Kenny Florian will be debuting at the 145 pound division at UFC 131 this Saturday and believes if he can defeat highly touted featherweight, Diego Nunes, he should be in line to fight for the title according to sherdog.com.
“I think if you look at what I’ve done at 155 and what I’ve done in my career, bringing the skills and the experience that I have … beating a guy in the top five in the world, yeah, I think that puts me in line for a shot right away. Who knows? We'll see. I think it definitely does," Florian said on sherdog.com.
Florian has long been a top contender at the UFC's lightweight division, fighting for the title twice. In his nine year MMA career Florian has built up a nice résumé, able to defeat MMA notables in Roger Huerta, Joe Stevenson, Clay Guida and Takanori Gomi. Come Saturday night, Florian hopes to add Nunes to his long list of victims.
Nunes is 16-1, with a split decision win in his last outing against former featherweight champion, Mike Brown at UFC 125. Numerous MMA sources have noted Nunes to be in the top 10 among featherweights.
“I want to put myself in the position to fight for the belt, and it’s not going to happen against just a regular Joe Shmoe. It’s gotta happen against one of the top guys in the world. For those who want to get a title shot, you have to prove yourself. What better way to prove yourself than to face one of Jose Aldo’s training partners?" Florian said on sherdog.com.
UFC 131 will be headlined by a heavyweight title contention eliminator between Shane Carwin and Junior dos Santos.
