Former UFC lightweight title contender Kenny Florian is in talks to face Clay Guida at the UFC 106 event set for November 21 in Las Vegas, Nevada. News of the bout came from Michael Smith over at MMA FanHouse.com.
UFC 106 could be the third event for the promotion in November as UFC President Dana White today revealed the possibility of an additional event taking place in the month.
UFC 106 will be headlined by a heavyweight title bout between current UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and challenger, Shane Carwin. Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz will do battle with Mark Coleman in a light-heavyweight feature set for the event.
Florian (11-4) is fresh off a loss against UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn at the main event of UFC 101, which took place earlier this month. Prior to the loss, he had won six straight to earn a title shot, which included big wins over Joe Lauzon, Roger Huerta and Joe Stevenson. The loss against Penn was Florian's second lightweight title shot as he was previously defeated by Sean Sherk in a title bout at UFC 64 in October 2006. He holds a superb 9-3 record with the UFC, with his first event dating back to TUF 1 finale in 2005. "KenFlo" has finished 10 of his 11 career wins.
Guida (25-10) is coming off a close split-decision loss to Diego Sanchez at TUF 9 finale in what many consider to be a fight of the year candidate. He previously won three straight prior to the loss, including wins over past TUF winners Nate Diaz and Mac Danzig. Guida has put together a 5-4 record with the UFC, with other notable wins over Samy Schiavo and Marcus Aurelio.The six-year veteran of the sport has competed for other notable promotions in his career such as the WEC, Strikeforce, Shooto and King of the Cage. Guida has key wins in his career over the likes of Bart Palaszewski and Josh Thomson.
