Kenny Florian vs. Clay Guida moved to UFC 107
by Jacob Camargo on September 09, 2009

Lightweight contenders Kenny Florian and Clay Guida will now collide at UFC 107 instead of at the original rumored UFC 106 event on November 21 in Las Vegas, according to ESPN's MMA Live.

The addition of the Florian vs. Guida lightweight bout will help bolster the Southern card that was left with a big void when the light-heavyweight bout between hometown boy Quinton Jackson and Rashad Evans was canceled due to Jackson's acting commitments.

Florian (11-4) will be looking to rebound after a tough loss against UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn at the main event of last month's UFC 101. Prior to the loss, he had won six straight UFC bouts to earn a title shot against Penn, which included big wins over Din Thomas, Joe Lauzon, Roger Huerta and Joe Stevenson.

The loss against Penn was Florian's second chance at the lightweight crown as he was previously defeated by Sean Sherk in a title bout at UFC 64 in October 2006. He holds a superb 9-3 UFC record, with his first event dating back to TUF 1 finale in 2005. "KenFlo" has finished fighters in 10 of his 11 career wins.

Guida (25-10) is also coming off a loss as he was defeated by Diego Sanchez via split decision at June's TUF 9 finale in what many consider to be a fight of the year candidate. Prior to the loss, he won three straight, including big wins over past TUF winners Nate Diaz and Mac Danzig.

Guida has put together a 5-4 record with the UFC, with other notable wins over Sammy Schiavo and Marcus Aurelio, while suffering hard fought losses against Tyson Griffin, Din Thomas and Roger Huerta. Over his six year career, he has competed for promotions such as the WEC, Strikeforce, Shooto and King of the Cage. Guida has notable career wins over the likes of Bart Palaszewski and Josh Thomson.

UFC 107 takes place on December 12 from the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee and will be headlined by a UFC lightweight title bout between current champ BJ Penn and top contender Diego Sanchez. Also in action, former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir will face Cheick Kongo and former UFC welterweight title contender Thiago Alves will take on Paulo Thiago.
