by Jacob Camargo on May 08, 2009

Strikeforce has announced that former UFC heavyweight champion Kevin Randleman will make his promotional debut against Mike Whitehead in a light-heavyweight bout set for the main card of June 6's Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields".

Kevin Randleman (17-12), has only fought twice since 2005, most recently at Sengoku “Second Battle” in May 2008 where he defeated Ryo Kawamura. Randleman, who now trains with Xtreme Couture out of Las Vegas, will be fighting in the U.S. for the first time since losing to Mauricio Rua in October 2006 at Pride 32.

Randleman, who recently survived a life-threatening staph infection, holds notable victories over Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, Pedro Rizzo, Murilo Rua, and current Strikeforce light-heavyweight champ, Renato Sobral.

Mike Whitehead is coming off a submission win over Leo Pla at an M-1 Challenge event in October 2008. Whitehead has gone 14-1 in his last 15 fights going back to his loss to Keith Jardine at UFC 57. Whitehead's only loss during that span came against Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Renato "Babalu" Sobral at Affliction: "Banned" last July.

Strikeforce: "Lawler vs. Shields" takes place at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri and will be the promotions second major event on Showtime.

The main event of the evening is a catchweight bout between former EliteXC champions Robbie Lawler and Jake Shield. Also featured on the main card will be another catchweight bout between Nick Diaz and Scott Smith, as well a welterweight bout between Phil Baroni vs. Joe Riggs.
