Kimbo Slice to Face MMA Legend Ken Shamrock
by Paulo Silva on August 25, 2008

Five Knuckles.com has confirmed that Ken Shamrock (26-13-2) will indeed be the next fighter to face Kimbo Slice. Slice (3-0) is coming off of a thrilling albeit somewhat disappointing victroy over British journeyman James Thompson. Slice was exposed to a certain degree against a very average heavyweight fighter in Thompson. Thompson was arguably winning the fight before a controversial stoppage in the third and final round due to strikes.

Slice may be tested again against veteran MMA legend Ken Shamrock who has good ground skills. However, the 44-year-old UFC Hall Of Famer is decidedly on the downside of his trailblazing MMA career having gone 2-8 in his past 10 fights; a span which includes a current five fight losing streak that has seen him knocked out in the first round of each of those fights.

The match up will headline CBS/EliteXC's next "Saturday Night Fights" event tabbed for Oct. 4 at the Back Atlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla.

A source close to the situation has informed Five Knuckles.com that EliteXC chose Shamrock over Sean Gannon and Brett Rogers due to his name recognition and ability to test Slice's ground skills. It's also likely that Shamrock's recent penchant for being on the wrong side of first round knockouts had something to do with it.

The promotion is looking to build toward a Kimbo Slice - Brett Rogers match up possibly as soon as his next fight, presuming Slice gets past Shamrock. We're told that Gannon basically priced himself out of a fight with Slice making the decision easier to cast Shamrock opposite Slice.
