Kimbo Slice is scheduled to debut in professional boxing by headlining at an August 13 event in Oklahoma according to bloodyelbow.com.
"Kimbo was always meant to be in the ring. He's one of the hardest punchers in the world and on August 13, his journey to becoming America's heavyweight begins. The first stop will be Oklahoma in what will become the Kimbo Slice Express," Jared Shaw, Slice's promotional adviser, said.
Sources indicated that Slice has been preparing for his boxing debut by training with his longtime boxing coach, Randy Khatami. Furthermore Slice has also spent time training alongside top contender, Alfredo Angulo, and working with trainer Clemente Medina.
"He's completely focused on his boxing career and excited to showcase his talents inside the squared circle. Kimbo Slice is hungry and when that man wants his bread, he's scary," Shaw said.
Slice rose to prominence through his immensely popular street fight videos that circulates on the internet, gaining millions of views on youtube alone. Slice broke out onto the MMA scene in late 2007 by becoming a star with EliteXC, winning his first three fights with the promotion. However a 14 second knockout loss to Seth Petruzelli would eventually lead Slice to the UFC, where he would go 1-1 before being released.
Kimbo's boxing career is set to take off in Miami, Oklahoma at the Buffalo Run Casino. Currently Slice is without an opponent.
