"If some of this stuff happened in the UFC, the fans would give it more praise for sure. If Overeem did some of the things he's doing in the UFC, he would be considered the next God. The fact of the matter is a lot of these fans aren't familiar with what's going on in Japan, and then they try to call Strikeforce 'Strikefarce' because they hear Dana White call it that. Dana White has his own opinion or whatever, but fight fans need to have their own opinion and their own way of thinking, but we know that's asking a lot." -King Mo via FightHype
Muhammed Lawal (King Mo) takes fans to task for an apparent lack of respect afforded fighters fighting outside of the UFC. Lawal contends that MMA fans aren't educated enough on what goes on outside of the UFC.
Lawal specifically mentions Japan where he opened his career, fighting for a year and a half under the Sengoku banner. The former D-1 wrestler was wildly popular in "The Land of the Rising Sun" were he went undefeated in his first four contests before eventually making his way stateside with Strikeforce.
He went on to become the Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion after defeating highly regarded Gegard Mousasi in April of last year before dropping his first title defense, and the first fight of his career, in his next outing against current champion Rafael Cavalcante.
Lawal is currently rehabbing an ACL tear which he suffered in the loss and expects to return to action sometime this year.
