"We'll see whats up. I'd love to fight [Gegard] Mousasi. But if they feel like I'm worthy, obviously they would have to hype me up and maybe... I don't know. We'll see. It's up to Scott Coker because I work for him. I'm willing to do whatever. If I can get past Mousasi, and Dan [Henderson], hopefully I can get the belt. [smiles] Then I could challenge Fedor [Emelianenko]." - Muhammed Lawal
His Strikeforce debut last weekend made people take notice. And now he is ready to take on the competition. On Dec. 19, Muhammed Lawal ("King Mo") KO'ed Mike Whitehead in a heavyweight battle. It seems, now, that he is ready to drop down to the light-heavyweight division to fight the champion Gegard Mousasi.
Also, earlier this month, Lawal said that he would eventually like to take on heavyweight spectacle Fedor Emelianenko.
"I just have to do my thing and keep winning," he said. "If he keeps winning, and I keep winning, [a fight with Fedor] could happen."
With Lawal challenging fighters in three different weight divisions (Mousasi in light-heavyweight, Dan Henderson in middleweight, and Emelianenko in heavyweight), Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker and other promotion officials could have their hands busy making a path for the fighter in the organization.
Currently, Lawal holds a 6-0 MMA record, fighting all six of those fights in the past 15 months. Five have ended via (T)KO, with one going to a decision. His first four fights took place in Japan under the Sengoku banner, where he fought his first two bouts in the heavyweight division, and the second two at light-heavyweight. Lawal currently does not have a next fight scheduled.
