A featherweight bout between UFC veteran Leonard Garcia and Diego Nunes has been verbally agreed upon for the WEC 47 event in March.
Garcia (13-5) is 1-2 in his last three bouts, most recently suffering a unanimous decision loss against Manny Gamburyan at WEC 44 in November. He has put together a 3-2 WEC record since debuting with the promotion last February, scoring wins over Hiroyuki Takaya, Jens Pulver and Jameel Massouh. His only other WEC loss against former WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown.
Garcia has been competing professionally for 10-years, while also fighting for the Colorado-based Ring of Fire organization. He has finished all but one of his 13 career wins including nine by submission and he holds other notable career wins over Rocky Johnson, Justin James and Allen Berubie.
Nunes (13-1) was dealt the first loss of his five-year career in his last bout, suffering a unanimous decision loss to L.C. Davis, which also took place at November's WEC 44 event. Prior to the loss, he won the first 13 bouts of his career, including wins in his first two WEC fights against Cole Province and Rafael Dias. The Shooto and Storm Samurai veteran has scored stoppages in 11 of his 13 career wins.
WEC 47 takes place on March 6 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio and will be headlined by a WEC bantamweight title bout between current champion Brian Bowles and challenger Dominick Cruz.
In addition, former WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres returns against rising contender Joseph Benavidez and former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver will return to face Javier Vazquez.
