Lesnar on Mir: "Hopefully he gets past Shane Carwin so I can put another beat down on him."
by Giada Esposito on March 01, 2010

There has been a lot of talk recently regarding Frank Mir's now infamous comments about breaking current UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar's neck, but until now, not much of it has come from the man those comments were directed at.

Lesnar last fought at UFC 100, where he successfully defended his UFC heavyweight title against Mir, in a dominant performance, by way of second-round TKO.

Since that victory Lesnar has been sidelined with illness, but has now completed a full recovery and is back in training. Speaking to KFAN Sports Radio AM 1130, he discussed his wish to return to competition this summer, as well as share his thoughts on Mir.

"I feel really good," Lesnar stated. "I'm back to training, I started main camp last week and I feel great. Everything is on track. Starting to build the base up again and get ready to fight hopefully mid-summer. We're thinking about July 3rd Las Vegas right now. Fighting the winner, hopefully the winner, of Frank Mir and Shane Carwin. If one of those guys are unable to fight after that fight. I'll probably fight Cain Velasquez from my understanding. I'd really like to fight Frank Mir again."

Lesnar understands that in the fight game, it's important to cultivate a winning mentality, and he's no stranger to emotional outbursts himself - far from it. But even he seems to be shaking his head at Mir's recent outlandish remarks.

"You know, I don't know what he thought," Lesnar mused. "He's still trying to pull his foot out of his mouth, and when you say something like that, and your wife has to go out and apologize for you, you know you pissed somebody off. I think his wife made the apology before he did probably. But you know, in this sport of fighting, fighting has come so far in such a short amount of time. We want to perceive ourselves as athletes and get the respect of the general public. Yeah, it was out of line, but in the fighters mentality, I don't want to go in the Octagon and kill somebody, but I do want to do whatever I can to win. And maybe that's what he was saying, I don't know."

Before Mir will have a chance to face Lesnar again, he will have to get past a very dangerous opponent in Shane Carwin at UFC 111 on March 27. Lesnar doesn't take Carwin lightly, and he doesn't think Mir should, either. Until then, he views Mir as a source of entertainment.

"The guy should probably just focus on the task in front of him, which is Shane Carwin, because if Shane Carwin beats his ass he won't be fighting me," Lesnar stated. "Hopefully he gets past Shane Carwin so I can put another beat down on him. For a guy to take an ass whopping like the last one I gave him, and for him to get up and keep running his mouth. You know, I just got to laugh at it. I got to go back to a quote that he said before my second fight. He said, 'if Brock Lesnar beats me, he will become the greatest mixed marital artist ever.' And I guess he's eating his words and he doesn't want to say that again. He doesn't want to admit that I am that much better than him. But I am truly hoping that Frank wins this fight so it sets us up for July, and maybe the next beat down will... (laughs). I don't know what I have to do to shut him up."

 |  (42) Comments Mickey knox: Aside from having a dicksword tattoo on his chest, being a gynormous douchebag, and being dumber than a box of hammers, I'm starting to like Lesnar Better than Mir. I hope Carwin beats Mir down and then takes the title from Lesnar, he'd probably lose it to Velaquez after that, but that's all good in my book. EverlastingSpringtime: It may never end :) and would the ufc want it too? Its good to see Brock come out as the sensible one in the latest exchange of comments, even those that jumped on the hate Brock Wagon after the Cooers Light comments (we love our bud) are now getting on the hate Frank Wagon, which has had to find extra space for the hate Frank revival tour. I have had no problem with Brock over comments or actions, it was raw emotion which happened after a fight. I also have no problem with franks comments as after listening to the interview its wasn't really serious, and has been blown out of proportion. Itl sell a huge amount of PPV's when they do rematch, looking forward to Carwin v Mir :) The Hitman: i say just let lesnar smash his face in and be done with it. non title haha ;) IwishIwasMMA: Yeah I am sure Lesnar would do it for free anyways... its not like you need a PPV event to watch Mir be pummeled senselessly for a couple rounds again... if i wanted to see that again i would just throw a cat in a blender for free. The Hitman: let them fight imo Wandering_Minstrel: I'm happy either way because Mir is getting his ass kicked. :D IwishIwasMMA: Jesus... you guys rung up 20 posts in like 20 mins... circle jerks anyone? :P Tonika Fatale: Lol i have a feeling it would be the same result as last time.
