Greg Jackson is considered among the premier MMA trainers and fight strategists in the world. He currently trains or has trained two UFC champions and has a roster of fighter's that reads like a who's who of mixed martial arts. Georges St. Pierre, Keith Jardine, Rashad Evans, Nate Marquardt, Brendan Schaub and Shane Carwin are just some of the names that call on Jackson for guidance in the cage.
The renowned UFC trainer and brilliant tactician took time out to hang with the boys at FiveKnuckles.coms' "The Light's Out Show" and tackle a ton of interesting topics ranging from how he got involved in MMA, to what he thinks about current UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.
Jackson On How He Became Involved in MMA:
"Well it all kinda happened by accident [laughs] . I never set out to be a coach or anything like that. I just wanted to help people. When I opened my first school I was 17 and I didn't really care about competition too much. Some of my students actually talked me into going to some competitions and we started winning, and started winning more, and here we are today. It was completely unintentional and I kinda lucked out into it. Considering what I do for a living, it just blows my mind and is amazing to me. I'm so blessed."
Jackson On Nate Marquardt:
"Well ya know, Nate Marquardt is just an amazing fighter. He's got a lot of experience for somebody so young and is very coachable. He continues to learn. You'd think a guy with his credentials would be arrogant or a know-it-all but it's just the opposite with him. He's super humble and one of my favorite guys to coach. He just keeps getting better and better and the sky is really the limit for him. The improvement you see is just a matter of his incredible work ethic, his incredible talent and he's got a great heart. He really truly is a great person. We'd love another crack at Anderson (Silva) and I think Nate feels he didn't give him his best his first time and he wants to prove to himself that he can fight a lot better than he did the last time. It's really exciting but we have to get past Demian first and that's no small order. Maia is amazing and has submitted everybody so were focusing on that at this point. I'm really confident in Nate."
Jackson On Finding holes in Anderson Silva's Game:
"I think I may have found some; maybe I haven't [laughs]. It's like playing cards, you can't show your cards until it's call time. I think he's an amazing fighter and just look what he's done. I have so much respect for him and it's such an exciting challenge to try and figure out a way around somebody so incredible. Maybe we can capitalize on some things, maybe not, but it's sure going to be fun to try for me as a coach. Again, I'm not even thinking of that right now as Maia is so daunting and so impressive in his own right."
Jackson On Keith Jardine:
"Keith's really creative and kinda developed his own style with the information that was given to him. He has a naturally creative rhythm and is able to take the tools we've provided to create what he is today. He did all the creating, we're just lucky enough to help him out. Keith's really...
