The UFC has recently signed M-1 standout and BJJ black-belt Lucio Linhares to a multi-fight contract. He will debut against Rousimar Palhares at the Ultimate Fighter season 10 finale in Dec.
News of Linhares' signing and insertion into the TUF 10 finale middleweight bout against Palhares was first reported by InTheGuard.TV. Palhares was originally slated to fight Alessio Sakara at TUF 10 finale, however, the American Top Team fighter apparently withdrew from the event due to "documentation" issues.
Linhares (13-4) has won his last five bouts, with all five wins coming via first round stoppage. He most recently defeated Mikhail Zayats at M-1: "Breakthrough" last month. He is a six-time veteran of the M-1 Challenge series, going 4-2 in the events, and scoring notable wins in the series events over Moyses Gabin and Karl Amoussou. The Team Alliance fighter has finished nine of his 13 career wins, and he holds other notable wins over Robert Jocz and Sean Salmon, while suffering tough losses to UFC veterans Thales Leites and Tomasz Drwal.
Palhares (9-2) hasn't fought since defeating MMA journeyman Jeremy Horn at UFC 93 in Jan. He was originally slated to fight at UFC 101 last month, but he was forced out of that event with a leg injury.
Prior to the UFC 93 win, Palhares suffered his first loss in the Octagon against Dan Henderson at UFC 88 last Sept. He is 2-1 with the UFC as his other Octagon win came in his UFC debut against Ivan Salaverry at UFC 84. The Fury Fighting Championship veteran has finished six of his nine career wins by submission, and he holds notable wins over the likes of Fabio Nascimento and Daniel Acacio.
TUF 10 finale takes place on Dec. 5 from the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV, and the main card will be televised on Spike TV. The event will feature a battle between the two heavyweight finalists from the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter.
The event will also feature a light-heavyweight bout between undefeated phenom Jon "Bones" Jones and contender Matt Hamill, as well as a lightweight bout between Frankie Edgar and Kurt Pellegrino.
