Luiz Cane: "I'm sure I'm ready for the next level"; prepared for Stanislav Nedkov at UFC 134
by Hubert Lau on August 23, 2011

UFC light heavyweight, Luiz Cane, confident as he fights Stanislave Nedkov in his native Brazil at UFC 134 according to ufc.com.

"I changed the way I train, the way I eat, the way I take my career and my life," Cane said.

Cane (11-3 (1 no contest)) made his way onto the UFC scene in 2007 after a hugely successful career in Brazil where "Banha" TKO/KO his way to victory in six of his first seven MMA bouts.

He kicked off his UFC career with a 3-1 record, which included stoppages over Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou and Jason Lambert, and was speculated early on to be a contender within the division. However Cane's bid for the UFC's light heavyweight title was derailed after successive TKO losses to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Cyrille Diabate

"I'm sure that those two losses made me a better athlete and a better person," Cane said.

Cane would reinvent himself in the time following his loss to Diabate, moving his training camp to Florida with The Armory. Cane also reevaluated his own approach to fighting, now favoring a game plan rather than brawling which cost him those two bouts with Nogueira and Diabate.

Cane would rebound in his last bout at UFC 128 against TUF veteran, Eliot Marshall, by defeating him via TKO in the first round.

“I was in the best shape of my life and I was very confident that I would win that fight,” Cane said.

For his upcoming bout at UFC 134, Cane would be facing a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt and a solid wrestler in Nedkov. This would be Nedkov's UFC debut, Nedkov holds nine stoppages of his 11 wins.

"I'm sure I'm ready for the next level, but I have a tough and dangerous fight in Nedkov. So now I'm just thinking of him," Cane said.

UFC 134 is scheduled on August 27, 2011 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event is headlined by Anderson Silva looking to defend his middleweight title for the ninth time against Yushin Okami. Cane and Nedkov are scheduled to fight on the main card as well.

 |  (8) Comments IwishIwasMMA: Cane, you just went from fighting "the next level of fighters" to getting TKOd by a credible striker, but someone who is not "the next level". This is why you are fighting guys who are not "the next level". thug4less: Let's see you win a couple against that next level before you start talking that kind of crap, Cane. Giada Esposito: Hey, wait a second guys... I admit that Cane has been a disappointment after his fast start, but he rebounded with a win over Elliot and all he's saying now is that he hopes to get back to where he was before Lil' Nog knocked him into next week and he lost to Diabate. It's not like he's being disrespectful or cocky or calling out the champ. I can't really say he sounds too unreasonable, and I for one hope he does get back into contention. At one time he was a really exciting prospect, maybe he still has a little left to prove. seedheadondatrak: Cane vs Thiago would be a great fight. That'll test him to see where he is. How much longer does Silva have on his suspension??
