UFC light-heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida announced today on his Twitter account that his upcoming title fight against Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, originally scheduled for May 1, may be delayed. According to Shogun the expected main event for UFC 113 may be postponed due to a likely conflict with an upcoming Manny Pacquaio boxing match that is being finalized.
"My next fight against Shogun is scheduled for May 1, but it could be postponed," Machida revealed. "It may be delayed because there is likely to be an important boxing match for Manny Pacquiao on the same day."
Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida, who owns a perfect 16-0 career record, defended his belt successfully against Shogun at UFC 104, in a controversial unanimous decision victory that left many observers questioning the judges' scoring. Recently Machida has been recovering from hand surgery to repair an injury he received during that fight.
Mauricio Rua rose to fame in Japan's Pride Fighting Championships, where he became a fan favorite with his spectacular displays of striking. Shogun holds a career record of 22-4, although his UFC record now stands at 2-2.
