MMA Quotable: Couture picks Serra over Hughes at UFC 98
by Jason Benfari on May 20, 2009

"With Matt Serra's newly mastered striking abilities and his already phenomenal jiu-jitsu and wrestling skill sets, I think he has the potential to be very difficult for Hughes. This could be a pivotal fight for Hughes, considering [this might be] his last outing. He's a tough, experienced fighter that you can never count out, but I believe Serra will win the fight. [There] could be some interesting fireworks along the way with their personalities, as well. It should be fun."

-Former UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture likes Serra over Hughes when the two men meet this Saturday in a pivotal welterweight matchup. Both men are looking to rebound after difficult losses and injuries.

Matt Serra (9-5) last fought over a year ago, getting KO'd in a lopsided affair against current UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre. He holds notable wins over the aformentioned St. Pierre, Yves Edwards, Jeff Curran, and Chris Lytle.

Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes (42-7), has dropped three of his past four fights. Often referred to as the most dominant welterweight champion in UFC history, Hughes has been inactive since June of last year when he was overwhelmed by the consensus #2 UFC welterweight contender, Thiago Alves, at UFC 85.
