MMA news roundup: Rampage the boxer?, Luiz Cain to 185 and ProElite event update
by Hubert Lau on September 29, 2011

UFC light heavyweight, Quinton Jackson, plans to step out of the cage and into a ring when his UFC contract expires according to bloodyelbow.com

"I hate fighting people who are scared. When you fight somebody who is scared you never know what they're going to do. They turn and run. That's why I'm gonna go to boxing. I'm gonna try boxing because they've got to stand with you. If I get knocked out I don't care because at least it's a fight," Jackson said.

Jackson's MMA career spans 12 years as he rose to prominence during the heydays of Pride FC. During this span, Jackson made his striking abilities known at the expense of Chuck Liddell, Marvin Eastman and many more. More specifically was his boxing skills as Jackson seldom used leg kicks, preferring to battle with his hands.

"I've tried a lot of boxing, I'm falling in love with boxing and I know I can put butts on seats over there," Jackson added.

Until his contract expires, "Rampage" looks rematch Mauricio Rua, hoping to avenge his 2005 TKO loss to the Brazilian.

Longtime UFC light heavyweight, Luiz Cane, will drop down to middleweight for his future bouts in the UFC according to tatme.com.

"Banha will drop to the middle weight. It is something that, in my point of view, will take some time for him to get used to this new division, so I don't wanna rush anything to make sure he's comfortable fighting in this new weight class," explains Alex Davis, Cane's manager, who also stated the drop in weight class is not related to Cane's recent TKO loss to Stanislav Nedkov at UFC 134.

Due to the transition to middleweight, Cane is not expected to fight until 2012. As Davis explains, Cane's fight team wants to take the necessary time to properly adjust Cane to the new weight class before his next matchup.

ProElite to launch its November event at the iWireless Center in Moline, Illinois according to mmafighting.com.

The event is headlined by a heavyweight bout pitting two former UFC heavyweights, Tim Sylvia fighting Pedro Rizzo. Complementing them is another heavyweight bout, Andrei Arlovski vs. Travis Fulton.

Sylvia (29-7) recently defeated Patrick Barrentine via TKO at an August Fight Tour event to rebound from a TKO loss to Abe Wagner earlier this year. The win gives him a 5-1 record over six bouts. Sylvia was once the UFC's undisputed heavyweight champion but lost his crown to Randy Couture at UFC 68.

Rizzo (19-9) will look to notch another win to his record in his first fight in over a year when he faces Sylvia. His last bout was a TKO win over Ken Shamrock at Impact FC last July.

Arlovski (16-9) recently snapped a four fight skid with a TKO win over Ray Lopez at ProElite's debut event last month. Arlovski might now be able to keep his critics at bay who questioned his continued career in MMA prior to the Lopez win.

Fulton (247-48-10) sports one of the most prolific records in MMA. Despite having competed the majority of his career among local circuits, Fulton has fought the likes of Ben Rothwell, Forrest Griffin, Travis Wiuff, Rich Franklin, Jeff Monson and Evan Tanner. Fulton is currently riding a two fight winning streak, last defeating John McElroy via triangle choke at Iowa Challenge 63.
