Mac Danzig vs. Matt Wiman rematch likely for UFC Fight Night 22
by Jacob Camargo on June 30, 2010

A lightweight rematch between "The Ultimate Fighter" season 6 winner Mac Danzig (19-8-1) and Matt Wiman (12-5) is in the works for UFC Fight Night 22 in September, according to Heavy.com.

Wiman and Danzig will look to settle some unfinished business after their first fight at UFC 115 on June 12 ended in controversial fashion.

Early in the fight, the pair were battling it out on the ground when Wiman locked in a guillotine choke on Danzig. The choke appeared to be sunk in deep and Wiman insisted to referee Yves Lavigne that Danzig was unconscious. Lavigne quickly checked in on Danzig but apparently didn't get a effective response from him, as he intervened and stopped the fight.

Following the stoppage, Danzig quickly bounced up and protested it. However, Danzig's protests would not reverse the decision as Wiman was awarded the first round technical submission win. The replay showed that Danzig had every right to protest, as he was fully conscious. The reason Danzig seemed unresponsive was that he was just in a relaxed position and was in no danger at the moment of the stoppage.

Following the event, UFC President Dana White said Lavigne made an unfortunate bad call in the Wiman vs. Danzig fight and the two fighters will likely have an immediate rematch.

The loss dropped Danzig to 1-4 in his last five bouts, suffering other losses during the dismal stretch to Clay Guida, Josh Neer and Jim Miller. His only bright spot over that five-fight span came in his previous bout against Justin Buchholz at UFC 109 in February.

Danzig now sports a 3-4 UFC record, picking up wins in his first two UFC bouts over Tommy Speer and Mark Bocek.

With the win over Danzig, Wiman has now won two straight fights, previously defeating Shane Nelson at UFC 107 in December. Prior to the wins, he lost two straight bouts against Jim Miller and Sam Stout.

TUF 5 cast member has put together a solid 6-3  record with the UFC, notching other Octagon wins over Brian Geraghty, Michihiro Omigawa, Justin Buchholz and Thiago Tavares; while suffering his only other UFC loss to Spencer Fisher.

UFC Fight Night 22 is expected to take place on September 15 at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas. The event will likely be headlined by a middleweight bout between Alan Belcher and Demian Maia.
