Maia, Swick, and Danzig could be out six months with injuries from UFC 109
by Giada Esposito on February 09, 2010

Following UFC 109, the Nevada State Athletic Commission has released the list of medical suspensions that is standard after any event. Unfortunately for some of the fighters, the injuries they received may keep them out of the Octagon until late this year.

Although several fighters who put in winning efforts received medical suspensions, probably none has the potential to impact a division more than Demian Maia's. Maia, who showcased his much improved standup skills in a victory over Dan Miller, may now have to wait to continue pursuing his dream of a UFC middleweight title until August.

The full list of medical supensions reads as follows:

- Mark Coleman is suspended until March 9 with not contact until Feb. 28.

- Nate Marquardt is suspended until March 9 with no contact until Feb. 28.

- Chael Sonnen is suspended until March 9 due to lacerations on his forehead and nasal bridge.

- Mike Swick is suspended until March 24 with no contact until March 9 at a minimum. He must have his left elbow x-rayed and cleared by an orthopedic doctor or he is suspended until Aug. 6.

- Demian Maia is suspended until Aug. 6 unless he has his left vertical upper eyelid laceration cleared by an ophthalmologist or an ocular-plastics doctor.

- Dan Miller is suspended until March 9 with no contact until Feb. 28.

- Frank Trigg is suspended until March 24 with no contact until March 9.

- Mac Danzig is suspended until Aug. 6 unless he gets orthopedic clearance on a possible left knee sprain.

- Justin Buchholz is suspended until March 9 with no contact until Feb. 28.

- Melvin Guillard has to have an ophthalmologic exam in one or two months, but it must be completed by March 26 and he must take a copy of his January 2010 examination with him.

-Rolles Gracie is suspended until March 9 with no contact until Feb. 28.

 |  (10) Comments thug4less: Damn, dude. Well, Maia wanted to stand up apparently and that is a consequence. At least he didn't shatter his hands like Faber did. It's amazing to me how soon some fighters can resume contact even with huge gashes in their heads. Thanks for taking the time to type all that crap up, Jade! Good on ya! JujitsWho: This injury to Maia might actually work in Sonnans favor. They aren't gonna make Sonnan wait until Maia is healed to fight again. Poor Ed Sore-ass might not get his way........that is funny to me :D The Hitman: this is very very bad for maia. it slows his comeback to a title shot. as for swick i hope he makes a speedy recovery, danzig.....ehhhhh.....bye
