Marcus Aurelio to replace Matt Veach on UFC 102 undercard
by Jacob Camargo on August 11, 2009

With UFC 102 quickly approaching a late change has been made to the preliminary portion of the fight card. Matt Veach has pulled out of his lightweight bout against Evan Dunham due to a back injury and American Top Team Fighter Marcus Aurelio will return to the UFC to replace him.The news of Veach's injury and Aurelio's insertion into the bout was reported by MMAjunkie.com.

According to the report, Veach re-aggravated an old back injury, which dates back to his college days, during a recent training session.

This isn't the first go around in the UFC for Aurelio as he went 2-3 in his first stint with the promotion. He lost in his octagon debut to Clay Guida but rebounded with back-to-back stoppage victories over Luke Caudillo and Ryan Roberts. Aurelio then lost consecutive fights to Tyson Griffin and Hermes Franca, which led to his exodus from the UFC roster. Since being released by the UFC, he has put together a two-fight win streak over Chris Liguori and most recently Joey Gorczynski in outside organizations. Out of 18 career wins, the Pride veteran has 15 via stoppages, including 11 by submission, and holds other notable wins over the likes of Masakazu Imanari, Rich Clementi and Takanori Gomi.

The Oregon Native, Dunham, made at successful UFC debut in his most recent fight by defeating Per Eklund at UFC 95 in February. Since turning pro in April 2007, he has put together an undefeated 8-0 MMA record, with 7 wins coming by way of stoppage. His lone decision win came in his MMA debut.

UFC 102 takes place on August 29 from the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon and the main card will be televised live on PPV. The event is headlined by a heavyweight bout between former UFC champions Randy Couture and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Other bouts set for main card action include a light-heavyweight bout between Keith Jardine and Thiago Silva and a crucial middleweight bout between Nate Marquardt and Demian Maia.
