Marcus Davis talks about his UFC 106 loss against Ben Saunders
by Jacob Camargo on November 29, 2009

"The game plan originally was to jump right on him; to give him no room at all, get in his face and smother everything and overwhelm him with speed on the inside. But I wasn’t able to do that. To be honest, I thought it was going to be a very easy fight and I was completely wrong. That was shocking to me. I did think it was going to be easy because I felt as though I had enough experience and because he was so thin it was going to be easy to overpower him. I don’t know what’s next. I have no idea." -Marcus Davis

A very disappointed Marcus Davis talks about his recent loss against Ben Saunders at UFC 106 on Nov. 21. The bout was one of the preliminary card fights that aired live on Spike TV and was Davis' second straight loss with his previous loss coming to bitter foe, Dan Hardy at UFC 99 in June.

Prior to his recent 2-3 stretch, Davis was once considered a legitimate contender, winning 11 straight fights, six of those coming in the UFC, from April 2006 to January 2008.

Despite the recent slump, Davis still sports a solid 8-3 UFC record, with other notable Octagon wins over Chris Lytle, Paul Kelly, Shonie Carter and Pete Spratt.

The 36-year old former boxer may be nearing the end of his six-year professional MMA career, however. He has had an impressive MMA career, though has been labeled a gatekeeper, defeating a lot of mid-tier fighters and suffering losses to top-level opponents.

Some have agreed with Jorge Gurgel's opinion that Davis should next face Phil Baroni, which would be a battle between two old school UFC vets.
