"I don't know what it is about him, but for some reason, he just constantly had my name in his mouth for some reason. Before we got onto The Ultimate Fighter, he would call me - when we were trying out. He seemed like a really nice guy. He would call me and he'd be like 'Hey, what's going on? Have you heard anything?' and I'd be like 'No.' Then right after that, I would get on the show and guys would show me text messages that were sent by him saying, 'Oh, Marcus is afraid to get hit in the face.' Stuff like that. It was weird, and I'm a very trusting person. I put myself out to be like that and for him to turn around and hit me in the back like that and say things behind my back, I didn't understand what was going on. Going into the fight I have to understand the most important thing is to get a 'W.' I do have to control myself when I'm in there because I become a bit emotional - especially when it's dealing with somebody who switches back-and-forth. You don't know if he [Matt Mitrione] is going to be nice one day or if he's talking behind your back. It was really difficult. And actually, when I was at home and the first episode came on and I was there watching with my wife and kids, and actually hear him come on the show and said that I would be an easy win, that my head's a big target and he would punch me in the face. It was kinda tough to deal with at that time because I'm like, 'Why didn't he just say that then and ask to fight me on the show?' I'm not the type of guy that's going to stand on the outside and try to box with somebody. I mean, I'm pretty sure he knows what I do best. And I know what he does best. It's going to be one of those things when we go in there... Whoever's will is most dominant that night is going to be the person that wins. I'm pretty sure I'm going to put him on his back. If he can stop me from taking him down, then more power to him. Until then, he's going to end up on his back." - Marcus Jones
The Ultimate Fighter 10 contestant Marcus Jones is ready to battle fellow contestant Matt Mitrione tonight at the season finale.
While Jones spoke of his initial introduction and reaction to Mitrione, fans were already accustomed to the bad feelings that they held for one another. On the last episode of TUF 10, which aired three days ago, Jones threatened Mitrione because an eye poke to fellow contestant (and friend of Jones) Scott Junk left him unable to fight. As Jones is emotional, he got in Mitrione's face and begged him to swing on him.
Throughout the season, Mitrione was wishy-washy. He did not train with the team, and often complained about a shoulder injury. However, he was able to do "select" activities. Mitrione also suffered from a rattled brain after his hard-fought bout against Junk. Towards the end of the season, there were questions as to whether he would fight in the quarterfinals.
In the two-hour final episode, Mitrione confessed to the cameras that while his head was feeling really bad after his fight with Junk, he had been fine for the past days, and was just using his...
