Mark Munoz is confident on wherever the fight goes as he takes on Chris Leben at UFC 138 according to tatame.com.
Munoz (11-2) is currently riding a three fight win streak, last defeating Demian Maia at UFC 131. Thus far, "The Filipino Wrecking Machine" has proven to be a solid wrestler with devastating ground and pound to boot. However, when he steps into the cage at UFC 138, Munoz recognizes that no mistakes can be made against the heavy handed Leben. As such Munoz has been working feverishly on what he believes is his only noticeable weakness, his stand up.
"I felt like my weakness was striking, and so I always tell everybody that if you work on your weaknesses and make them your strength, you don't have any weakness. So, I work on my striking a lot. My striking actually has gone to the point where I'm very good now. I know I can get a powerful punch and I know I have a lot of power in my strike, so I'm gonna use that, definitely in my fights to come and I'm definitely gonna need my wrestling and all the other things about my game," Munoz said.
During Munoz's 11 fight career, he has only been knocked out once, a rare head kick from Matt Hamill at UFC 96. However his chin is still able to take punishment as evident by his second round rally against Kendall Grove at UFC 112 after a knee from Grove rocked Munoz in the first round. Whether or not it holds up to Leben's left hand has yet to been seen.
"You know, I'm ready wherever the fight goes against Chris Leben. I'm a wrestler, so I'm gonna try to take him down, and I think he knows that, but at the same time I'm confident with my striking as well. So, I've proven myself to be a good mixed martial artist and you gonna see a mixed martial artist in there, no matter if it's on the feet or on the ground, you gonna see good aspects of both on my feet or on the ground. Yeah, I'm being more of a complete fighter now," Munoz said.
Should Munoz emerge victorious at UFC 138, the Filipino hopes to rematch Yushin Okami who was recently defeated by Anderson Silva at UFC 134. Ultimately, however, Munoz is ready to accept any fight placed in front of him by the UFC.
UFC 138 is scheduled on November 5 at LG Arena in Birmingham, England with the first five round non-title Munoz vs. Leben middleweight match to headline.
