Mark Munoz vs. Ryan Jensen added to UFC 108
by Jacob Camargo on October 21, 2009

A middleweight bout Mark Munoz and Ryan Jensen is in the works for the non-televised preliminary portion of the UFC 108 card on Jan. 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV. News of the bout was first reported by MMAJunkie.com.

Munoz made his way to the UFC after going 2-0 in the organizations' sister promotion, the WEC, scoring first round TKO wins over Chuck Grigsby and Ricardo Barros. He was transferred to the UFC after the WEC folded its light-heavyweight division. Munoz would make his UFC debut in March at UFC 96, where he was handed his first career loss at the hands of Matt Hamill via first round KO.

Following the loss to Hamill, the former NCAA Division I national wrestling champion made the move down to middleweight and picked up his first UFC win by defeating Nick Catone at UFC 102 in August. He has put together a nearly flawless MMA record of 6-1 since turning pro in July 2007, with half of his wins coming by TKO.

Jensen (14-5) earned his first UFC win in four attempts by defeating Steve Steinbeiss in his last bout at UFN 19 last month. He was defeated by Wilson Gouveia in his previous bout at UFC Fight Night 15 a year prior in Sept. 2008. Jensen sports an overall 1-3 UFC record, with previous losses coming against submission specialists Thales Leites and Demian Maia.

Jensen has been competing professionally since February of 1997, fighting for other notable promotions along the way such as Strikeforce, SportFight and Extreme Challenge. He has finished all of his 14 career wins including nine by submission and holds notable career wins over the likes of Travis Fulton, Curtis Stout and Rob Kimmons.

Though not officially announced, UFC 108 is rumored to be headlined by a UFC middleweight title bout between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort.

Other bouts in the works for the event include a light-heavyweight tilt between former UFC light-heavyweight champion Rashad Evans and American Top Team fighter Thiago Silva, as well as a heavyweight bout between contenders Junior dos Santos and Gabriel Gonzaga.
