Martin Kampmann vs. Rory Markham likely for UFC 108
by Jacob Camargo on October 23, 2009

Expect fireworks as a pair of determined welterweight fighters, Martin Kampmann and Rory Markham, will be looking to rebound from recent losses when they square off against each other at UFC 108 in January. Both fighters have verbally agreed to the match up, according to a report from MMAjunkie.com.

Kampmann (15-3) is coming off of a devastating first-round TKO loss at the hands of Paul Daley at UFC 103 last month. Prior to the loss, he had won his first two bouts since dropping to the welterweight division, scoring wins over Alexandre Barros and Carlos Condit.

Kampmann is 6-2 in eight apperances with the UFC, with other notable Octagon wins coming over Thales Leites, Drew McFedries and Jorge Rivera. The Xtreme Couture product has finished 12 of his 15 career wins and holds other wins in his six-year career over Xavier Foupa-Pokam, Brendan Seguin and Edwin Aguilar.

Markham (16-5) has not fought since being knocked out by Dan Hardy at UFC 95 in February. He previously scored a highlight reel knockout victory of his own over Brodie Farber in his UFC debut in July 2008 at UFC Fight Night 14.

Markham has fought for other promotions during his six-year career, such as Xtreme Fighting Organization, Extreme Challenge, Adrenaline MMA, and the now-defunct IFL promotion, where he went 6-2 during a long eight-fight stint from April 2006 to Dec. 2007. He has scored stoppage victories in all of his 16 career wins including 11 by TKO or KO and holds notable career wins over Jason Guida, Mike Pyle, Brad Blackburn and Pat Healy.

UFC 108 takes place on Jan. 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV, and the event will air live on PPV. The event is rumored to be headlined by a UFC middleweight title bout between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort, which still has not been confirmed due to the status of Silva's health.
