Up-and-coming light heavyweights Matt Hamill and Phil Davis will look inch closure to title contention when the former collegiate wrestling standouts square off at UFC 129: St-Pierre vs. Shields on April 30. The news was first reported by MMAJunkie.com and later confirmed with sources close to the event.
Hamill (10-2) is riding a five-fight winning streak since his loss to former mentor Rich Franklin back in 2008. He's coming off of a dominant performance over former champion Tito Ortiz at UFC 121 in October and has consistently improved his all-around game in almost every fight since joining the organization back in 2006.
Davis (8-0), a four-time All-American and Division I National Champion, is facing a step up in competition after breezing through Tim Boetsch at UFC 123 in November. The highly regarded 26-year-old prospect mixes outstanding athleticism and strength, with creative and dynamic wrestling.
UFC 129 is headlined by welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre vs. Jake Shields and co-features Randy Couture vs. Lyoto Machida.
