After days of speculation and rumors it seems as if Matt Hamill, not Thiago Silva or Rashad Evans, will meet Quinton "Rampage" Jackson at UFC 130. MMABay first reported the possibility of the match-up, which was later confirmed by MMAWeekly.
Once projected to fight Jackson, Thiago Silva's status in the bout came into question after he tested positive in one of two post fight exams after his victory at UFC 125. The UFC turned to Rashad Evans as a replacement for the hard hitting Brazilian, as many sites reported in the past couple of days.
Whether Evans was never officially offered the fight or if his knee issue made him unable to train for the May 28th fight remains a mystery.
Up until yesterday a proposed bout between Matt Hamill and Phil Davis had been listed on the UFC web page for UFC 129. It inconspicuously was taken down late last night. Fans were left wondering why the bout had been pulled.
It is currently unknown what will happen to Phil Davis, Rashad Evans or Thiago Silva in the near future.
Jackson has all but been assured a title shot if he is to win his fight at UFC 130. He is coming off of a very controversially decision victory over Lyoto Machida at UFC 123.
Hamill will be coming into the bout with a five fight win streak, although that includes his DQ win over Jon Jones. A win over Jackson would surely catapult Hamill into title talks in the light heavyweight division.
