Matt Hamill suffered a dislocated shoulder during his fight against Jon Jones at The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale.

The news about the Dec. 5 injury was first reported by Sports Illustrated's veteran MMA reporter, Josh Gross, via Twitter.

"His left shoulder was dislocated, not broken," said Gross.  "And doctors popped it back in at the hospital."

Duff Holmes, Hamill's trainer, told MMAJunkie.com that the fighter will undergo an MRI scan to see if there is any soft tissue damage.

"He showed so much heart hanging in there with only one arm," Holmes said of Hamill.  "He's a true warrior, and I've never been more proud of him.  It was the first time in 11 pro fights that he's ever been taken down.  I was happy with his performance until that point, and he showed his continued growth as a well-rounded fighter."

However, it was not Hamill's dislocated shoulder that gave way to the end of the fight.  Initially, the fight was stopped after vicious ground and pound from Jones, which included an elbow strike that opened up the top of the bridge of Hamill's nose.  With Hamill badly bloodied, lying on the mat, Jones was taken to be the victor.

But with instant replay, it was seen that Jones landed at least to 12-6 elbows to Hamill's face, which are illegal strikes.  Referee Steve Mazzagatti ruled the bout a win for Hamill due to the illegal blows, which saw Jones lose by disqualification.

While Jones could have been celebrating an addition to his undefeated record, he acknowledged his fault and congratulated Hamill on his win.

"Situations like this can only make you better," Jones said.  "I didn't win that fight.  I did something illegal.  That's my youth and inexperience.  I messed up.  I threw an illegal move and I didn't win.  If I was smarter, I would have thrown the elbows more correctly."
