Matt Lindland vs. Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza; King Mo's debut in the works for December Strikeforce event
by Jacob Camargo on October 30, 2009

Newly-signed Strikeforce middleweights Matt Lindland and Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza are in talks to face each other at a Strikeforce event in December. News of the bout was first reported by MMA Fanhouse.com.

Both Souza and Lindland were previously reported to have signed contacts with Strikeforce in August.

Souza (10-2) opened his career by being knocked out in his first career fight against Jorge Patino at Jungle Fight 1 in Sept. 2003, but he rebounded by putting together 10 straight wins, including nine via submission, with notable wins during the streak coming against Alexander Shlemenko, Zelg Galesic and Jason Miller.

The streak came to a halt at DREAM 6, courtesy of Gegard Mousasi in the promotion's middleweight Grand Prix 2008 final. He has not fought since DREAM 9 in May, where he fought Jason "Mayhem" Miller for the second time in a bout that was for DREAM's vacant middleweight title. The bout was ruled a no contest after Miller threw an illegal kick to a downed Souza.

Lindland (21-6) has been inconsistent as of late, going 3-3 in his last six bouts. He last fought at Affliction: "Day of Reckoning" in January, where he was defeated by Vitor Belfort. Lindland previously defeated Fabio Nascimento at Afflcition's first event last July.

Lindland has fought for such notable promotions during his 12-year career such as Cage Rage, IFL, Rumble on the Rock, Bodog Fight and the UFC, where he went 9-3 in 12 fights. He earned stoppage victories in 14 of his 21 career wins and holds notable wins over the likes of Ricardo Almeida, Carlos Newton, Phil Baroni (x2), Pat Miletich, Falaniko Vitale, Travis Lutter and Jeremy Horn.

Also being targeted for Strikeforce's December event will be the debut of undefeated, rising prospect Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal, who signed with Strikeforce earlier this month. He most recently moved his undefeated professional mark to 5-0 by defeating UFC veteran Mark Kerr via first-round TKO in his U.S. debut at August's M-1 "Breakthrough."

The 28-year-old former NCAA Division I All-American wrestling champion, made waves in the sport by winning the first four bouts of his career in impressive fashion while competing for World Victory Road's "Sengoku" promotion in Japan.

The Showtime televised event is being targeted for Dec. 19 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., and is rumored to be headlined by a unification lightweight title belt between Strikeforce lightweight champ Josh Thomson and Strikeforce interim lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez. In addition, middleweight sluggers Scott Smith and Robbie Lawler will also be competing on the Dec. 15 event in seperate bouts.

Strikeforce will be going head to head with a ZUFFA event as the UFC's sister promotion, WEC, will be holding its December card, WEC 45, on the Dec. 19 as well.
