Fresh off victories at this past weekend's UFC 113 event, Matt Mitrione and Joey Beltran are now in talks to meet in a heavyweight bout slated for the un-aired preliminary portion of the UFC 117 card on August 7 at the at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.
News of bout was first reported by Truefighting.com.
UFC 117 is expected to be headlined by a UFC middleweight title bout between current champion Anderson Silva and challenger Chael Sonnen. Other rumored fights on the card include Matt Hughes vs. Ricardo Almeida, Thiago Alves vs. Jon Fitch II and Tim Boetsch vs. Thiago Silva.
Mitrione pushed his career record to 2-0 after defeating Kimbo Slice via second round TKO at the aforementioned UFC 113 event on May 8. He previously was successful in his professional MMA debut, as he scored a second round knockout win over Marcus Jones at the TUF 10 Finale in December.
The ex-NFL football player had only been training in MMA about a year and a half prior to joining "The Ultimate Fighter" season 10 reality series. For his latest fight, he trained at the Duke Roufus Academy in Southeastern Wisconsin, and previously trained in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the Integrated Fighting Academy with UFC welterweight Chris Lytle.
Beltran (12-3) is currently riding a three fight winning streak, scoring a win over UFC veteran Houston Alexander at a 5150 Combat League event in January, as well as wins in his first two UFC fights against Rolles Gracie in his Octagon debut at UFC 109 in February and Tim Hague at UFC 113.
Beltran has competed for other notable promotions throughout his three-year career such as King of the Cage, Strikeforce, Total Combat and Bellator. He has finished all but one of his 12 career wins including 10 via TKO, and holds other notable career victories over the likes of Wes Combs and Sherman Pendergarst.
