by Jacob Camargo on June 07, 2009

Lyoto Machida's first title defense will indeed be against Mauricio Rua at UFC 104 in October as Fiveknuckles.com previously reported. According to a new report on MMAmania, the two have signed bout agreements to face one another at UFC 104 and Fiveknuckles.com was able to confirm the information through a source close to the bout.

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson was originally set to get first crack at Machida, however, he opted to participate as a coach on TUF 10, with came with an opportunity to fight his new found rival, Rashad Evans.

UFC 104 will be held on October 24 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles according to UFC President Dana White. The event will mark the promotion's first trip to Los Angeles since UFC 60: "Hughes vs. Gracie" back in May 2006.

Lyoto Machida earned the light-heavyweight crown by defeating former champ, Rashad Evans, at UFC 98 last month. Machida sports an undefeated MMA record of 15-0, with 8 decision wins and 7 by stoppage. Prior to entering the UFC, "The Dragon" defeated notable fighters Vernon White Stephan Bonnar, B.J. Penn and Rich Franklin. Since being with the UFC, he's captured wins over the likes of Sam Hoger, David Heath, Kazuhiro Nakamura, Sokoudjou, Tito Ortiz, Thiago Silva and the aforementioned Rashad Evans.

Former top ranked light-heavyweight, Mauricio Rua, is coming off a big win over former UFC light-heavyweight champ Chuck Liddell at UFC 97 in April and is now 2-1 with the UFC. Prior to UFC 97, "Shogun" defeated Mark Coleman at UFC 93 in what many deemed a subpar performance and he also suffered a loss in his UFC debut against Forrest Griffin at UFC 76. However, the 2005 Pride FC Middleweight Grand Prix winner seems to be getting back to his old self following a number of injuries which resulted in numerous surgeries and rehabilitation stints. "Shogun" holds an impressive resume with notable wins over Alistair Overeem(2x), Quinton Jackson, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Kevin Randleman, Cyrille Diabate, Evangelista Santos and Ricardo Arona.
