Mauricio "Shogun" Rua Accepts Fight With Rampage Jackson
by Paulo Silva on August 25, 2008

Mauricio "Shogun" Rua recently announced that he has accepted a fight proposal to face Quinton "Rampage" Jackson in December, presumably at the promotions annual New Year's Eve event.

“I’ll be back in December. They said that I might fight Quinton Jackson, but nothing has been signed yet," Rua told Tatame. "They (UFC) called me and offered a fight with him and I accepted it, but they didn’t say anything more. (Jackson's legal issues) may be a problem, but I want him in December, and I believe he can be back”

This fight will mark the second time the two men have competed against one another. The first was in 2005 when both men fought for the now defunct Japanese promotion, PRIDE. Rua took that fight rather definitively, earning a first round knockout over the former UFC light heavyweight champion.

Both men are coming off of losses to Forrest Griffin in their previous outings. Rua lost via third round submission (rear naked choke) and Jackson dropped a controversial five round decision to the now reigning UFC light heavyweight champion.
