Apparently, UFC President Dana White met with Mauricio "Shogun" Rua recently at the UFC headquarters in Las Vegas, to put together what has been termed a "really big fight". Multiple sources, including Inside Fights, have suggested that the fight in question could be an all-Brazilian battle for the UFC light heavyweight title, with Shogun challenging fellow Brazilian MMA superstar and recently minted champion Lyoto Machida.
The fight makes sense now that it has been revealed that current number one contender Quinton "Rampage" Jackson will be tied up coaching opposite former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans for the 10th installment of Spike TV's "The Ultimate Fighter".
The fight is rumored to be taking place sometime this fall.
Rua (19-3) is coming off a big 1st round KO over Chuck Liddell at UFC 97, where the former consensus number one light heavyweight took a huge step forward in proving that he's moved past the knee injuries which have stalled his once brilliant career. The win pushed his UFC record to 2-1 with the other win coming over UFC hall-of-famer Mark Coleman. Rua dropped his UFC debut to Forrest Griffin at UFC 76, incurring a severe knee injury in the loss, which required over a year of rehab.
We'll have more on this story as information becomes available.
