"I have the dream of getting the light-heavyweight belt around my waist ever since I start fighting. This is the opportunity of my lifetime and I'll do everything I can to grab this opportunity and not let it go away. I think people call Lyoto Machida a puzzle because he's a very different kind of fighter. He fights in a very different style than most people fight and it's very difficult to find sparring partners that will emulate his style. I believe Lyoto Machida is a fighter that fights on a counterstrike style. If you expose yourself to him by overly pressing forward, he can take advantage of that and end up capitalizing. I think you have to be patient enough to find the right moment to attack and to know when to engage." - Mauricio Rua
Former PRIDE Grand Prix tournament winner Mauricio "Shogun" Rua has the tall task of defeating the undefeated in order to capture the UFC light-heavyweight championship. Standing in his way is the 15-0 Lyoto Machida who is coming off of a devastating second round KO over former champion Rashad Evans.
Shogun is still a relative unknown to many casual MMA fans but has a wealth of experience under his belt from fighting all over the world. In his seven-year career, Shogun has put together an impressive 18-3 record and has defeated world-class fighters like Alistair Overeem, Chuck Liddell, Renato Sobral, Mark Coleman, Kevin Randleman and Quinton Jackson. Rua's been plagued by injury since his UFC debut, where he lost by rear-naked choke to Forrest Griffin at UFC 76. Currently, his record is 2-1 with the UFC, and a recent KO over Chuck Liddell has bumped him up to #1 contender in the light-heavyweight division.
UFC 104 will take place on Oct. 24 in Los Angeles, CA.
