Michael Bisping isn't afraid if he is taken down by Chael Sonnen and says that he will sink in a submission if it becomes a grappling match according to fightersonlymagazine.co.uk.
"So when Dana (White) gave me the call, of course, I jumped at it. This is a huge opportunity. I beat Chael Sonnen and I get to fight Anderson Silva in a soccer stadium in Brazil," Bisping said.
Bisping was offered the fight against Sonnen after Sonnen's original opponent, Mark Munoz, suffered an arm injury during training. Despite having less than two weeks to revamp his training regime, Bisping was originally training for Demian Maia; he is ready for the challenge.
"I'm a fighter, I've always been a fighter, and you've got to take the opportunities when they arrive...Without a shadow of a doubt this is the biggest fight of my career. It's going to be the most watched fight of all time, with it going live on Fox TV, and I am fighting the number one contender. This is my title fight," Bisping said.
One factor Bisping will have to contest with is Sonnen's potent wrestling that almost won Sonnen the middleweight belt in his bout with Anderson Silva at UFC 117. However Bisping points to his jiu jitsu to match Sonnen's wrestling.
"Chael Sonnen can take me down if he likes, because I know I can submit him off my back. I know I can. That's his big weakness...Believe me, if Chael Sonnen takes me down he better be prepared to get submitted."," Bisping said who also pointed out that he grappled with the likes of Jake Shields and Dean Lister along with "a wash of other world champions."
Bisping vs. Sonnen is set for UFC on Fox 2 is set for January 28 at Chicago's United Center. Bisping is currently slated as an underdog for the fight but can the Brit overcome the odds to defeat Sonnen for his long awaited title shot? Or is a Sonnen vs. Silva rematch inevitable?
