Michihiro Omigawa likely facing Darren Elkins at UFC 131
by Tim Groves on February 21, 2011

UFC 131 continues to take shape as a featherweight contest is in the works for the event.

MMAJunkie.com learned that former lightweight Darren Elkins (12-2) is dropping down to 145 to take on Michihiro Omigawa (12-9-2) at the event.

Elkins is coming off of his first loss in the UFC, when he was submitted by Jiu Jitsu ace Charles Oliviera this past August. He did defeat Duane Ludwig in his UFC debut, though. The wrestler reportedly walks around at 160 pounds, making the cut down to 145 seem relatively easy.

He will be making his debut against veteran fighter Michihiro Omigawa. Omigawa is now apart of the UFC for the second time after a failed lightweight run in 2007 and 2008. He made his featherweight debut with the promotion earlier this month when he lost to Chad Mendes via decision at UFC 126. The judokan was out wrestled and out struck for the duration of the bout.

The bout is expected to take place on the preliminary portion of the card.

UFC 131 is expected to feature a main event before The Ultimate Fighter coaches Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos. The event takes place in Vancouver, Canada on June 11th.
