Team Takedown's Jake Rosholt has been released from his contract with the UFC following his loss at UFC 106 on Nov. 21. Rosholt revealed the news on his official Twitter account.
"Not a good day," Rosholt wrote. "Just found out I got cut by the UFC."
Rosholt's manager Ted Ehrhardt told MMAWeekly that UFC matchmaker Joe Silva wants the young middleweight to get experience outside of the organization and that the move isn't permanent.
"We're gonna get him some more experience, try to get a winning streak going," Ehrhardt said. "They pretty much don't have room on their cards to try to get someone a winning streak. They need them to have one before they come in."
Ehrhardt felt Rosholt's three fights in the UFC were tough and wants to get more experience to compete with the top-level opponents. He also sympathizes with Joe Silva for having to try to mix and match with 250+ fighters on the UFC's roster.
"They give Jake Chris Leben, Kendall Grove, and before that, Dan Miller, all pretty good fighters, but everybody in the UFC is a good fighter." Ehrhardt said. "There's no easy fights in the UFC. So it's understandable, but we're still very disappointed. Joe's in a tough spot with a lot of the fighters put on him, and he has to do what he has to do."
Rosholt, who is a three-time NCAA Division I national wrestling champion and four-time All-American, suffered a first round submission loss against TUF 3 winner Kendall Grove at UFC 106 on Nov. 21 in Las Vegas. He exits the UFC with a 1-2 record, picking up a win in his previous fight against Chris Leben via third round submission which earned him a $60,000 "Submission of the Night" bonus. He dropped his UFC debut against Dan Miller.
Prior to joining the UFC, Rosholt defeated Nissen Osterneck at WEC 36 in what was his lone fight with the UFC's sister promotion. He has put together a 6-2 MMA record over his young two-year career, with four of his wins being by TKO and two by submission.
