Veteran middleweight Lucio Linhares has reportedly been released from his contract with the UFC after going 0-2 in his first two bouts with the promotion.
Linhares joins Eric Schafer, Eliot Marshall, and Shannon Gugerty, among others, as other fighters who have been cut by the UFC in the recent weeks.
Linhares' UFC career was short lived. He went 0-2 with the promotion, suffering losses inside the Octagon against Rousimar Palhares in his promotional debut at UFC 107, and Yushin Okami at UFC Fight Night 21 in March. The losses didn't come as much of a surprise as Linhares was a substantial underdog in both contests. He previously won five straight fights, which included first round stoppage wins over Karl Amoussou, Sean Salmon and Mikhail Zayats, to earn a contract with the UFC.
Prior to joining the organization Linhares fought for other notable promotions such as Shooto and Fight Festival. He is also a six-time veteran of the M-1 Challenge series, going 4-2 in the events.
Linhares has put together a 13-6 MMA record over his near six-year career, scoring stoppages in nine of those wins. He holds other notable career wins over Robert Jocz and Moyses Gabin.
