Former WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres has reportedly agreed to make his return against rising contender Charlie Valencia at WEC 51 in September.
The bout will serve as the night's co-main event.
Torres (37-3) will be looking to bounce back from consecutive losses for the first time in his career. He first suffered a big upset loss against Brian Bowles to lose the WEC bantamweight crown at last August's WEC 42 event and most recently was defeated by Joseph Benavidez via second round submission at WEC 47 in March.
Prior to the losses, Torres was the top ranked 135-pounder in the world and was also considered among the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, as he won an amazing 17 straight fights from June 2004 to April 2009, which included wins in his first five WEC bouts against the likes of Jeff Bedard, Chase Beebe, Yoshiro Maeda, Manny Tapia and Takeya Mizugaki.
Valencia (12-5) was originally supposed to face Eddie Wineland at WEC 49 last month, however, he was forced off the card due to an injury.
Valencia is currently riding a three fight winning streak, which includes back-to-back unanimous decision wins over Seth Dikun and Coty Wheeler as well as a split decision win over Akitoshi Tamura in his last fight at WEC 46 in January.
The Millennia MMA product previously lost two straight fights against Yoshiro Maeda and Dominick Cruz. He has put together a solid 5-3 WEC record since debuting with the promotion in March 2007, with other wins coming over Ian McCall and Antonio Banuelos.
Though not officially announced, WEC 51 will likely take place on September 30 at the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colorado. The event will be headlined by a WEC featherweight title bout between current champion Jose Aldo and challenger, Manny Gamburyan.
