The WEC announced the addition of a featherweight bout between former WEC featherweight champ Mike Brown and promotional newcomer Anthony Morrison to the televised main card portion of its WEC 46 event in January.
The announcement of the bout was made during the broadcast of last night's WEC 46 event on the Versus network.
Brown (22-5) will be competing for the first time since losing the WEC featherweight crown to Jose Aldo at WEC 44 last month. Prior to the loss, he was on an impressive 10-fight winning streak, which included wins in his first four WEC bouts against Jeff Curran, Leonard Garcia and Urijah Faber (x2).
Brown has competed all over the world during his eight-year career, fighting for other notable promotions such as HOOKnSHOOT, Hardcore Fighting Championships, DEEP, Bodog Fight, Absolute Fighting Championships and the UFC. The American Top Team product has finished 16 of his 22 career wins, and holds other notable career wins over the likes of Mark Hominick, Dustin Neace and Yves Edwards.
Morrison (10-7) is 4-1 in his last five bouts, most recently picking up his second straight win by defeating UFC veteran Alvin Robinson at Ring of Fire 36 on Dec. 4. His lone loss over the five-fight stretch came against Micah Miller at Shine 2: "ATT vs. The World" in September.
The Cage Fury Fighting Championships and Combat Sport Challenge has been competing professionally for four years, and has finished six of his 10 career wins.
WEC 46 takes place on Jan. 10 at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif., and is headlined by a lightweight title unification bout between WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner and interim title holder Ben Henderson. Also, former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber will take on rising contender Raphael Assuncao in the co-main event.
