by Jacob Camargo on December 01, 2009

The UFC officially confirmed a long-rumored welterweight bout between undefeated King of the Cage champion Rory MacDonald and KOTC welterweight champ Mike "Joker" Guymon for the preliminary portion of its UFC Fight Night 20 event in January.

The majority of the UFC Fight Night 20 bouts were announced earlier this month but questions arose when the Guymon vs. MacDonald bout was left officially unannounced after being one of the first bouts to be rumored for the event. According to MMAjunkie.com, Guymon recently concluded and passed all his medical tests, which cleared the way for the UFC to make his bout against Macdonald official.

Guymon (11-2-1) is 9-1 in his last 10 bouts, which includes five straight wins coming by stoppage. He most recently defeated Quinn Mulhern at KOTC: "Distorted" in October. He has not been defeated since suffering a split decision loss against MFC welterweight champion Pat Healy at an IFL event in June 2007.

The 35-year-old Guymon has been competing professionally for 10 years, fighting 10 of his 14 career fights with the King of the Cage promotion. "Joker" has finished all 11 of his career wins and holds notable victories over the likes of Thomas Schulte, Ray Perales and Anthony Lapsley. Besides the aforementioned loss to Healy, his only other career loss came at the hands of current UFC lightweight title contender Diego Sanchez.

MacDonald last saw action in a second round knockout win over Nick Hinchliffe at KOTC: "Disturbed" in September. The 20-year old has fought the majority of his budding career with King of the Cage, fighting seven of his nine career career contests with the promotion.

The Canadian has put together a 9-0 MMA record since tuning pro four years ago. All of his nine career wins have come via stoppage including five by submission and the other four by TKO or KO. He holds a notable career win over well traveled veteran Clay French.

UFC Fight Night 20 will take place on Jan. 11 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia and the main card will be televised live on Spike TV. Headlining the event is a crucial lightweight tilt between Gray Maynard and Nate Diaz. In addition, TUF 8 lightweight winner Efrain Escudero will take on Evan Dunham in another featured lightweight bout.
