Welterweights Mike Pierce and Rob Kimmons have verbally agreed to face each other at UFC on Versus 1 in March. The news comes courtesy of a report on MMAjunkie.com.
UFC on Versus 1 takes place on March 21 at The Odeum in Broomfield, Co., and is headlined by a light heavyweight bout between Jon Jones and Brandon Vera.
Pierce (10-3) most recently suffered a unanimous decision loss against Jon Fitch at UFC 107 on Dec. 12. He previously was on a six-fight winning streak, which included victories over Mark Miller, Justin Haskins and Paul Bradley as well as a upset win over Brock Larson in his UFC debut in September at UFC Fight Night 19.
The WEC, Gladitor Challenge and SportFight veteran has finished six of his 10 career wins by TKO or KO and holds other notable wins over Tim Sternod and Mike Dolce.
Kimmons (22-5) will be making his first drop to the welterweight division after going 2-2 in his first four UFC fights as a middleweight. He most recently suffered a third round TKO loss against Jorge Rivera at UFC 104: "Machida vs. Shogun" in October. Kimmons has recorded UFC wins over Rob Yundt and Joe Vedepo, while suffering his only other loss inside the Octagon to Dan Miller.
During his six-year career, Kimmons has fought for other notable promotions such as the WEC, Shooto, Victory Fighting Championship, HOOKnSHOOT, Midwest Cage Championships and Titan Fighting Championship. He has scored stoppages in 19 of his 22 career wins including an astounding 14 wins by submission.
