The UFC today announced the addition of a welterweight bout between submission specialist Mike Pyle and undefeated prospect John Hathaway to the televised main card portion of its UFC 120 event.
Hathaway was originally slated to face Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 120 in what was to be a battle of unbeaten welterweights, however, Kim was forced off the card after he suffered an elbow injury during training that required surgery.
Hathaway is coming off an unanimous decision win over "The Ultimate Fighter" season 1 winner Diego Sanchez at UFC 114 in May. The win moved Hathaway to a perfect 4-0 UFC record, scoring previous Octagon wins over Tom Egan, Rick Story and Paul Taylor.
The 22-year-old Englishman has put together a 14-0 MMA record over his four-year professional career, scoring finishes in nine of his 14 wins.
Pyle (19-7-1) most recently scored a third round technical submission win over Jesse Lennox at UFC 115 last month. The win helped him avoid back-to-back losses, as he was defeated in his previous fight by Jake Ellenberger at UFC 108 in January.
Pyle now sports a 2-2 UFC record, suffering a defeat against Brock Larson in his UFC debut, which was then followed by a submission win over Chris Wilson. The well traveled Pyle has competed for an array of other notable promotions during his 10-year career such as EliteXC, Strikeforce, the IFL, Sengoku, Affliction, Shooto and the WEC.
UFC 120 takes place on Oct. 16 at The O2 in London, England and will air on Spike TV via same-day delay. The event is headlined by a middleweight bout between Michael Bisping and Yoshihiro Akiyama.
