Mike Russow now set to fight Justin McCully at UFC 102
by Jacob Camargo on July 09, 2009

Fights continue to get shaken up on the undercard of UFC 102 as hot prospect Junior dos Santos has been pulled from his bout with Justin McCully. Octagon newcomer Mike Russow will replace him. The news of the opponent change first came via MMAjunkie.com and was later confirmed by Fiveknuckles.com.

It is unknown at this time why dos Santos was pulled from the event. Russow was set to fight Todd Duffee at UFC 102 but as previously reported Duffee will now fight Tim Hague.

Russow enters the UFC having won his last seven bouts, all by stoppages, with his most recent win coming against Braden Bice at Adrenaline MMA 2 in December of 2008. The one-time Pride veteran, Russow, has compiled an impressive MMA record of 11-1, with only one of those fights going to a decision. He suffered his lone career loss at the hands of Sergei Kharitonov at Pride 33 in February 2007. The Chicago cop holds notable victories over the likes of Roman Zentsov and Jason Guida.

Justin McCully hasn't fought since last December as he was originally slated to take on British heavyweight Neil Grove at UFC 95 in February, however, McCully withdrew from the bout due a cut he sustained while training.McCully scored a decision win over Eddie Sanchez at UFN 16 and is now 5-1 in his last six bouts. The only blemish McCully suffered during the aforementioned streak is a loss against Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 86 last July. Prior to the loss, McCully made a successful UFC debut by defeating Antoni Hardonk in April 2007. The Pancrese, Rings and Jungle Fight veteran has been competing professionally since 1997.

UFC 102 will hail from the Rose Garden Arena in Portland, OR on August 29. The event will be headlined by a long awaited heavyweight bout between MMA legends Randy Couture and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Also featured on the main card will be two pivotal light-heavyweight bouts in Keith Jardine vs. Thiago Silva and Matt Hamill vs. Brandon Vera, as well as two explosive middleweight bouts in Chris Leben vs. Jake Rosholt and Demian Maia vs. Nate Marquardt.
