Mike Swick, who recently pulled out of UFC 103, has voiced his wishes to fight Matt Hughes at an upcoming UFC event.
Swick was forced to pull out of his title contention bout against Martin Kampmann on Sept. 19 due to a concussion he suffered during training.
"I got foot swept while sparring this week and lost my legs," wrote Swick on his Twitter account. "Landed on back of my head and neck and suffered a pretty bad concussion."
But Swick says that he will be ready to fight by UFC 104 on October 24.
"No next opponent has been offered, but yes I would love to fight Hughes," he said. "I will be ready... so just waiting for the UFC to call."
Matt Hughes, coincidentally, just signed a multi-fight contract with the UFC. Although he is not expected to compete until early 2010, he has begun talking with the UFC about possible opponents.
"Nothing is decided yet," Hughes said. "However, one name the UFC did bring up is a person I've never fought before."
Hughes and Swick have never fought each other. It is likely that the possible Hughes vs. Swick bout will be a title contention fight, with the winner going on to face welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre (assuming that he is still the champion at that time).
Swick holds an MMA record of 14-2, trains with the American Kickboxing Academy, and is a TUF 1 alum. Hughes is a former nine-time welterweight champion with a 43-7 MMA record who fights with the Miletich camp.
